The programme centres around the Triumphs of Oriana, a collection of madrigals compiled by Thomas Morley in 1601.   Three 'Triumphs' represent the glorious public face of the Queen which are in stark contrast with her private persona, her 'Trials', represented by lute songs and more internalised, emotional music.
