EXHIBITION: Cohen's Power Flowers'

Thursday 04 July 2024 - Sunday 04 August 2024

11.30am - 5.30pm • FREE

Alfred Cohen’s flower pictures evolved throughout his career – Expressionist in the 1960s, wild and free in the early 70s, more formal and abstract later. But they are always bold, vibrant and powerful, with this superb colourist’s characteristic warmth and energy. This new temporary exhibition of fifteen smaller works complements the striking large flower pictures on display among the Museum’s permanent collection of over seventy works, exhibited in Cohen’s beautiful, atmospheric studio spaces.

Alfred Cohen (1920-2001) was an American artist who moved to Norfolk in 1978, having lived and worked in Chicago, Paris, London, and Kent. The Museum opened in 2023 in Cohen’s Norfolk home. His work is also in over fifty major public collections including the Sainsbury Centre, Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Government Art Collection, Arts Council Collection, British Council, and Pallant House. The exhibition coincides with the North Norfolk Exhibition Project’s summer group show, also in Wighton.

Visit the exhibition at the Alfred Cohen Art Foundation and Museum, The School House Gallery, Wighton, Norfolk, NR23 1AL.
