Celebrating our 70th Anniversary...

For the first time since 1951, we were heart-broken at having to cancel the 2020 Festival due to Covid-19, after so many months of planning.  Whilst we were unable to hold live performances for our 70th Festival, we were determined not to allow this momentous anniversary to go unmarked.  Many past Festival’s performers including Craig Ogden, Tasmin Little, Emma Johnson and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra joined in a virtual celebration which is available to view online at   https://70.kingslynnfestival.org.uk/ .  The 30-minute film features personal messages and exclusive performances from some of the country’s finest performers.

Lady Dannatt, Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk described King’s Lynn Festival as “a greatly cherished and successful organisation” and sent good wishes to the “incredible  volunteers who strive to make the festival the wonderful success it is.  I loved the stunning celebratory link – an inspired idea, beautifully orchestrated.”

The film has been viewed by people across the globe and Lady Dannatt was not alone in her praise of the film.  The following messages were among those sent by festival supporters, from all over Norfolk and beyond, immediately after the 70th festival film went live.

“Thank you for a very enjoyable and festival affirming programme. Good to see the heart-warming messages and how much our performers enjoy visiting King’s Lynn and our superb festival”.

“Thank you for putting the celebration together. It certainly made me realise how lucky we are to have such a wonderful festival in King’s Lynn and how sad we can’t celebrate this year.”

“What a well put-together and lovely celebration, with some super bits of music and heart-felt best wishes”

“It brought a real smile of pleasure to remind us of what we all love.”

“Thank you for the 70th celebration. We enjoyed it. It made us so sorry to be missing it this year but sure it will bounce back next year.”

“Congratulations. It was very good and deserves wide circulation. We need to be reminded of what we are missing and hopefully it will be a spur to people to be extra-supportive next year.”

“What a delightful 70th birthday tribute for the festival. Well done to everyone involved”.
