Festival Exhibition Opens

Personalities from the arts world who have taken part in King’s Lynn Festival during its 65-year history are featured in this year’s Festival exhibition of work by portrait photographer John Hedgecoe.

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich has loaned pictures from its large collection of the artists’ work donated by Hedgecoe’s family following his death in 2010.

Paul Zuckerman, chairman of the centre’s board, said he was pleased to share the works with Lynn Festival, especially as they linked so closely with the Festival’s long history.

John Betjeman, Peter Ustinov, Benjamin Britten and John Piper were among the famous faces who have appeared at Lynn and who were photographed by Hedgecoe.

Festival chairman Alison Croose thanked the Sainsbury Centre for loaning the exhibition which reflected Lynn Festival’s rich history and would be a source of great interest to visitors.

Hedgecoe’s son, Sebastian, gave a talk about his father’s career, entitled The Artistry of My Father's Portraits.

John Hedgecoe: Face of the Artist is at the Fermoy Gallery, King's Lynn Arts Centre until July 25, open Monday - Saturday 10am to 5pm.
