Extra Festival weekend 12-14 October highlights

King’s Lynn Festival Extra, the three-day festival being staged on October 12-14, offers something for everyone with a world-famous brass band, classical music and a variety of events for children.

Highlighting two of the town's wonderful church organs, on October 12 at 5.30pm there will be a talk and recital, A Beginners Guide to the Pipe Organ, by organ expert Peter Godden who will play the recently-renovated Henry Willis organ at St Nicholas’ Chapel at 5.30pm.  Then on October 13 at 2.30pm organ fantasias will be played on the Minster’s fine Snetzler organ by Martin Schmeding and Henry Fairs.

At the Minster on October 12 at 8.30pm the silent film Phantom of the Opera will be shown with live music from Minima who were a hit at last year’s festival. The ancient church will provide an atmospheric setting for the performance.

For many the highlight of the weekend will be the first visit to Lynn of the world-class Cory Band who will perform a varied and exciting programme in St Nicholas’ Chapel at 6.30pm.

The weekend will conclude with four East Anglian Film Archive films relating to West Norfolk, and an early music concert by the Brook Street Band at 7.30pm, both events in St George’s Guildhall.
