Jazz and Folk to feature at Festival

The wide-ranging King’s Lynn Festival programme will bring top names from the worlds of jazz and folk to King’s Lynn.

Ray Gelato, known as Britain’s “godfather of swing”, will team up with multi award-winning singer, Claire Martin, for a celebration of swing at the Corn Exchange on July 22.

The pair, praised for their “great combination of jazz artistry”, will explore the Great American Songbook, sharing the stage with a world-class trio led by David Newton.

Highly successful Lynn Festival gigs by Scottish groups Blazin’ Fiddles and Capercaillie in the last two years will be followed by Lau’s first visit to Lynn on July 18.

Four times Radio 2 Folk Award winners, Lau take their name from the Orcadian word for “air” – one of the trio Kris Drever is from Orkney. Aiden O’Rourke is from Oban and Martin Green from England.

They are one of the most sought-after groups on the Scottish scene, known for their “sublime musicianship and empathetic interplay” in their exciting brand of British folk music.

Another big name appearing in Lynn for the first time is that of The Unthanks, exponents of the traditional and folk music of the North-East of England who have also featured prominently in the Radio 2 Folk wards. They are also known for their clog dancing!

They will perform at Lynn in a 10-piece band on July 20.

Half-price concessions for under 18s are available for all three events. Call the box office at the Corn Exchange on 01553-764864 or book online.
