Intern Vacancy - Communications and Events


An exciting opportunity to join the busy festival team in our office at Bishop's Lynn House in King's Lynn is being advertised via Job Centre Plus.

 

Communications & Events Intern
This position is part of the Creative Employment Programme, therefore is open to young people aged 18-24 who are unemployed and registered with the Job Centre Plus. If you would like to apply for this position you will need to do so through the Job Centre Plus quoting reference KIJ/42392.

The opportunity:
You will work on various projects, activities and ongoing duties including distribution of print, assisting with digital marketing, collating, designing and proofing print material, database maintenance and general administration support. In addition you will provide on the ground support for the Festival and have specific responsibility for planning, promoting and managing a series of free music events in King’s Lynn.   

The role will provide an opportunity to gain valuable ‘hands on’ work experience and will offer an insight into the workings of a long-standing Festival. It is a fantastic step towards any future career, especially within the arts and cultural sector.

The 2015 Festival takes place from 12th - 25th July and as part of this role the candidate must be available throughout this period. 

Some weekend and evening work will be required.

The candidate will be required to travel locally within King’s Lynn and occasionally across Norfolk.

Person Specification:
We are looking for high calibre candidate who will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, confidence in dealing with a range of people, high level ICT skills and experience of office administration. You will be highly motivated, creative and have a keen interest in the arts and cultural activities.

This role will be challenging and diverse, assisting with many aspects of organising a high profile Festival. Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills are essential.  We require someone who is quick to learn, flexible and very committed. Effective time management and efficiency is of great importance alongside a sharp attention to detail. At times this role will be demanding and have tight deadlines, the candidate must feel confident in working under pressure as well as on your own initiative.

Previous experience in a Communications or Events management team is not essential, but we will look for candidates with an enthusiasm for developing within this area and who can confidently outline transferable skills and experience. Training and support will be provided.

Basic terms and conditions:
This is a fixed term contract for 30 hours per week, and is 6 months in duration.

Minimum Wage.

Leave: Statutory Annual holiday is offered pro rata.

Based at Festival Office: Bishops’ Lynn House, Tuesday Market Place, King’s Lynn.

The post reports to the Administrator.
