Bess of Hardwick comes to King's Lynn!

This weekend, St Nicholas' Chapel will provide the backdrop for a new play by Kevin Fegan. The show has played to sell-out performances at Buxton Pavillion Arts Theatre, Lakeside Arts Nottingham. Drill Hall Lincoln, Old Library Theatre Mansfield and The Lowry.

A unique insight into the political intrigues of Elizabethan England, as witnessed first-hand by "Bess of Hardwick". Bess was the closest female friend of Queen Elizabeth I and, at the same time, confidante to Mary Queen of Scots, whom Bess and her 4th husband (the Earl of Shrewsbury) kept under "house-arrest" for over 15 years until Mary's execution.

Tickets are on sale now and will be available at the door.  Performance starts at 7.30pm on Sunday 28 April.

"BESS - THE COMMONER QUEEN" national tour of new play by Kevin Fegan playing to sell-out shows.

"A tour de force...a striking, outstanding production...a triumph for actress Michelle Todd and playwright Kevin Fegan" (BRITISH THEATRE GUIDE)

"This production deserves to become an award-winner" (ARTSBEAT)

"Who'd 'ave thought, this Derbyshire lass would one day be tab-hanging between two great queens?"

"Bess the builder" built Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall and established the Cavendish dynasty. Her grand-daughter Arbella Stuart was second in line to the throne after King James I. A story of survival and astonishing business success in the brutal world of Elizabethan politics.

Presented as a seamless mix of powerful live performance and luscious film, shot on location at Hardwick Hall, it is an ambitious one-woman show (with other characters appearing on screen).
